Why do we celebrate Juneteenth?

This past week, President Trump stated, that he is the only one that has made Juneteenth, "Very Famous!"

I beg to differ with him. Like many others in our country, we have been remembering and celebrating Juneteenth for 150 years.

Now, if President Trump is in indeed, 150 years old than I would have no problems with him trying to take credit for something that he may have been around to do. However, he wasn't.

I am including the newsletter article I wrote for Palm Lake Christian Church, June 2019 to make this point.

Juneteenth is a time to remember that our African American brothers and sisters were freed from slavery as were others kept in captivity.

It was made famous by a Union General Gordon Granger that took the news to Galveston Texas.

As we celebrate the freedoms given to all, let's remember who has really set us all free from pain and heartache and tyranny, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us remember that without God's grace and mercy for all human kinds, we are nothing more than dust in the sand!
